History of our Church...
Trinity was organized in 1892 in order to establish an English speaking Lutheran Church. The Mother congregation, St. John Lutheran Church, was a German speaking congregation. The first building to house Trinity was at South 7th and A streets in Richmond, Indiana. The building was remodeled and added on to numerous times to accommodate the growing congregation. The present site, 2300 West Main Street, was selected and dedicated for service September 22, 1962.
The architecture of the current building has many symbols that tells the story of the Christian faith.
The Sanctuary ceiling is shaped like the bow of a ship. It symbolizes that the church, as the Body of Christ, can keep people afloat in the midst of the more terrifying storms of life. (Mark 4:35-41. Jesus calms the storm at sea)
The roof line of the Sanctuary takes the shape of two hands folded together in prayer. “God’s house is a house of prayers.” (Matthew 21: 12-13. Jesus cleanses the temple)
The Christus Rex is the focal point of the sanctuary. The 19 ˝ foot mosaic represents the Risen and Ascended Lord Jesus, who as prophet, priest and king is the one to whom all knees shall bow on earth and in heaven. (Phillippians 2: 8-11)
The Altar represents both a table of sacrifice and a family table. The table reminds us of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for the sin of all humanity. The family table reminds us of the Lord’s Supper which is the sacramental meal of Christ’s body and blood. This meal is “food for the soul” that brings forgiveness of sin and a renewed faith in the Resurrected Christ.
